The Language of the Heart: Spiritual Transformation Group
Healing the heart of everything that hinders you from achieving your true life purpose.
Are you yearning for a space to step out of your hectic “day-to-day” life, and find nourishment?
Have you wanted to find a group of like-hearted people who are committed to their own personal and spiritual growth?
This is an opportunity for you to step out of your normal daily schedule, and acquire the tools that will help you release any hindrances to achieving your life’s purpose. I create a safe container to step into your heart-space and dive deeply to clear out what is getting in the way of staying in and working from that heart space in all aspects of your life.
It’s also an opportunity to come into greater consciousness. And that’s really important because as a planet, we’re in the middle of a shift into greater awakening and awareness, and this group will help you come into greater consciousness.
Last, but not least, this group also gives you an opportunity to find connection with like-hearted people who are as committed to their own personal and spiritual growth as you.
The Spiritual Transformation Group really helped me find my tribe. Often I feel like I’m an island, especially when doing healing work. This group provided me with the community and connection that I had been craving.
I created this group a few years ago for a small number of people to step into their heart-space with support and guidance. Together we did some amazing and deep personal growth work; this year I began sharing it with a broader audience.
Several previous group members have called it a “Spiritual Transformation Journey.”
This is not for beginners
I want to be clear up front that this group is not for beginners on the Spiritual path, but rather for those who have been on the path for some time, and who are ready to dive deep in a gentle group setting. By “spiritual path,” I mean some sort of ongoing connection with the Divine, be it prayer, meditation, chanting, devotion to a particular spiritual tradition; and that you have felt a connection with, even guidance from the Divine in your life. For example, if you’ve been meditating off and on for 2-3 years, have done yoga off and on for 2-3 years, and have some spiritual experience, and yet still feel like you’re at the beginning of your spiritual journey, you have been on a spiritual path for some time. In the end, if you feel called to this group, but aren’t sure about where you are spiritually, let’s have some conversation. Together we can discern whether this group is right for you at this time.
This group will provide deep experiential learning and transformation similar to an apprenticeship, and your intellect is not the most important aspect. You will be learning the language of the Heart, and/or learning to speak it more fully in all aspects of your life. By clearing away the “stuff” you carry with you, you move closer to becoming the best you can be. You need only a deep spiritual devotion, an ability to be self-aware, and a willingness to learn.
Masterful facilitation: it is wise, compassionate, creative, extremely attentive to individual needs while attending to the group as a whole, with a gentle calming presence. [Mary] taps into years of expertise, experience and personal healing journey.
This group is a good fit for you if:
What does this consist of?
A series of six monthly teleconference calls for three hours each. We will also connect on Facebook through our own private group so we can create ongoing community and support; and I will be on hand for specific hours for Q & A midway between calls.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
– Margaret Mead
When we get together as a group, the healing is exponential. First, what one person works on, everyone gets to clear or release. Much more than that, this effect goes way beyond the group: it contributes to the shift in consciousness taking place right now, and to what in Jewish mystical tradition is called tikkun olam (the healing of the world).
If this sounds like you, I hope you join us!
The Magic of this Work
Here is where the magic of this type of work occurs: one person’s ability to go after a specific issue or release some part of past trauma, that is, one person’s ability to be fearlessly honest, allows others to really “feel” you, breaks your previous sense of isolation around the trauma, and in the process you heal yourself.
At the same time, those who are compassionately witnessing find yourselves healed as well. When you experience the truth of someone, you fall in love with the one who is speaking, and that shifts and opens you, and heals something in you.
The result is a deep and abiding community of people who are joined at the heart level, and who are committed to your own and each other’s growth. The blessings flow to everyone, and not just to a few.
This group is envisioned as a circle. Although we are not physically together, I hold the space for the sustained deep spiritual work we will do. You are all walking different paths, and coming together in this time to be transformed. Whether you have worked with me on calls like this for a couple years, or are new to this work, you are all meeting as equals and as new companions on the journey. I ask each person to bring a beginner’s mind.
What I bring to this group
I facilitate from a non-Western model. My role is to hold the space for transformation to happen and to act as a clear channel flowing as Spirit directs. Over the years I have led hundreds of groups and honed my skills in facilitating deep spiritual change. One of my great joys is facilitating groups so they really have the experience they want to have.
I will establish ground rules for when to speak, ways to allow space for someone to be heard fully before moving on to someone else, and ways to practice compassionate witness.
While you might not notice it very much, I gently lead in such a way as to provide enough space for those who are sharing, and create boundaries that enable you to be the participants you want to be. I have done this work myself. Just as an elder holds the wisdom, I do the same: there is deeper transmission because of the work I’ve done.
Even if you’re hearing something that you’ve heard before, it will be working at a different level. Each time you may have completely different insights around what someone is saying.
Among the techniques I use are music, poetry, wisdom teaching, drumming, vibration, and toning to enable each participant and the group as a whole to connect to the heart/spirit.
I find that one of many things that makes Mary unique and special is her ability to engage each of us individually energetically, and intellectually while providing emotional support without an agenda. This allows spiritual growth and exploration without spinning out of orbit/ that is still connected to our central Self. It is a very select skill set that I have not found in anyone else.
Some of the more commonly asked questions, and my answers, appear below.
Because it is truly Spirit-led, each session is different. I simply open myself, and facilitate how I am led. The focus is spiritual rather than mental or psychological. There is a teaching component and a spiritual experience component. The teaching/discussion times reflect and support the participants’ topics of concern. There is always a theme for each group meeting that emerges organically as we do our work together.
Some of the topics we may discuss/deal with: surrender, service, creating sacred space, keeping space clear, not taking on others’ stuff, how to clear space, creating a spiritual container for your work, how to accept and work with the shadow parts of yourselves you haven’t wanted to see or don’t like, how to help your head to become more accepting of your deep heart work, dealing with your inner critic, etc.
We begin each session by creating Sacred space together, sometimes with a prayer or ritual, sometimes with a simple grounding exercise. From there, we may move into discussion immediately. Often, however, there are periods of silence as Spirit works with us individually and as a group. Sometimes we even find that we “swoon” or go into a kind of Zen-like restful state.
Often people have told me that they feel as if they’ve had the equivalent of a good night’s sleep just by virtue of spending the time together on the call. We may do deep or intense work with grief, fear, or anger, or a bit of all three. We often have a lot of laughter. Each person is always free to share, but it is not necessary to talk or share to get the full benefits of being on the call.
You will want to have paper and pencil available during the calls, as well as a comfortable and quiet place to sit or stand or walk, water to drink, and perhaps a snack or small meal prepared. It is also perfectly OK to take care of any personal needs you may have during the call. Just make sure that if you’re moving around or if there is background noise, to mute your phone.
On the other hand, if you are processing some deep emotion, please do not mute your phone unless you absolutely have to; your emotional work will enable others to go deeper, and will spark others to deal with whatever it is in themselves that resonates with your processing.
We will practice compassionate witness: for a great example and explanation, here is a link to a short video in which Thich Nhat Hanh describes the practice of compassionate witness.
The short answer is Yes. Building on my solid background and training in group dynamics and family systems, I have been leading groups and creating community for more than 30 years. I have a gift for being able to create a safe space for transformation and spiritual community to happen. I also have been leading these kinds of transformational groups over the past few years by teleconference; most participants have valued it so much that they have continued beyond their initial commitment.
Comments I hear over and over are “I can’t believe how close we feel”; “I never thought I would be able to go this deep”; “Everyone held such a beautiful space for me to work”; “I feel so connected.”
It is not the size of the group that matters, but the quality of the group. A tiny group does not necessarily make the best community. Because you all share a deep spiritual commitment, you will recognize each other; you will very quickly feel a sense of kinship and connection. You will find that you have found your “tribe.” That said, because I want each person to have the opportunity for personal attention, I am limiting the group to a maximum of 12.
I have found that doing this kind of work takes a good block of time. We need time to let go of whatever else is going on in our lives, and to become fully present. The work itself also has a rhythm of diving deep, shifting, and then strengthening. We need a significant length of time for all of those components to happen (and they sometimes happen several times over, so we experience several deep shifts or changes during the time of a call).
You may have heard the famous saying: “You can’t pour from an empty cup.”
How many times do you stop to put yourself first? It’s so easy, no matter what your situation, but especially as a parent, to schedule yourself last, and by the time you get to setting aside time for yourself, you’re either too tired, too depleted, or you somehow never get the time! These calls are a once-a-month opportunity to commit this time to take care of yourself. When you have filled your cup, you will be able to be more present with those you love. Particularly for those of you with kids, this could be a huge opportunity for them as well. You could schedule a play date or a dinner-and-play date: The kids will enjoy the time spent with someone else, and you will be able to rejuvenate yourself so that you can be more present the rest of the month.
One of the benefits of this group is that you’ll have a deeper understanding of what spiritual commitment is and what it means to you. You will also be connected with a group of others who share a similar level of commitment to their personal and spiritual work – and that adds to the potency of the group sessions.
One participant said this: “Because of the commitment, we have a very strong container, and that’s how the magic can happen.”
My hope is that you will attend every session. It’s true that life happens and you may miss one session for a good reason. If you miss more than one session, we’ll need to have a discussion because I highly value creating a safe container for the whole group. Sometimes we “climb the mountain” very quickly! Once you have made this commitment, payment will be due for every session even if you have to miss.
This group is intended to be available to anyone, regardless of where you are living. In fact, not only have we had international participants, but we’ve had people traveling during previous groups who have connected from all over the world. I will be using Zoom, which has free connections via phone, tablet, or computer, from many countries. Also, payment(s) can be made via credit card or ACH. The payment link will work no matter where you live.
When I joined the group, I was struggling to embrace darkness and could have never imagined that I would feel SO supported and loved by the members I had not met in person. As I journeyed on my own path towards light, our monthly phone meetings were like an anchor that grounded and kept me steady.

How to Apply
Does this sound like what you’ve been looking for?
If this calls to you, let’s see if you’re a good fit.
The next step would be to fill out the application. I’ll take a look at it so I can have a good sense of where you’re coming from, and we’ll schedule a time to talk.
After a lot of thought and prayer I’ve come to the conclusion that for this group to be successful, it requires commitment. I wanted to write this really clearly so there is no confusion. And if there is a truly unusual circumstance that is completely disruptive to your life, of course I’m completely open to talking.
To reserve your spot in the Spiritual Transformation Group, your deposit along with your first month’s payment must be paid in full by the start of the first call. If you cancel prior to the first call, then don’t worry, all is not lost!
Payment is fully refundable up to 30 days before the date of the first session..
All but 50% of the deposit is refundable up to 14 days before the first session.
Less than 14 days before first session, and up until the day before the first session, anything over and above the deposit will be fully refunded.
However, if cancellation occurs after the first session, no refund will be issued.
The reason why this is so strong is that I don’t want anyone who takes on this journey to feel abandoned. This is a beautiful journey. The participants lean into one another, and it can be really hard to have someone come in and go out. And I don’t want you to have to experience someone whom you’ve been leaning into disappear from the group unless unless there’s something really extreme that’s going on for them.
